For decades, Yahoo! JAPAN’s data engineers, cartographers, and cloud infrastructure team managed complex map production software, location APIs, and rendering technology capable of meeting the demands of the Japanese market. With the move to Mapbox.jp, the engineers behind Yahoo! JAPAN’s success are accelerating the development of new, innovative services. Whether someone is on a morning commute or looking for the perfect venue in Tokyo next summer, they now have a custom, best-in-class map experience built from Zenrin data and other partners.
Yahoo! JAPAN started using Mapbox Tiling Service to create time series visualizations of live weather in Japan that update in near real-time. Yahoo! JAPAN Weather & Disaster app for mobile and web migrated to MTS so that the team could focus on improving the core experience of the apps and stop thinking about maintaining mapping infrastructure, and in doing so their team was able to save engineering time and money while providing a better experience for their users.
By migrating all of our minutely updating weather maps to MTS, we were able to save engineering time and money while providing a better experience for our users. We’re excited to migrate more of our maps to MTS. Soichi Takahashi, Unit Manager at Yahoo! Japan
