About GOGO Labs

GOGO Labs is a Japanese company specializing in location-based services that provide drivers with essential information about gas stations and EV charging facilities. Its two primary platforms, gogo.gs and GoGoEV, attract over 1 million monthly users. These platforms allow drivers to share gas prices, provide details about EV and plug-in hybrid charging stations, and post reviews, creating a crowdsourced ecosystem of reliable insights for seamless driving experiences.

The challenge of rapid growth

GOGO Labs set out to provide an intuitive yet comprehensive resource for drivers. It quickly gained traction, with the platform now seeing over 8.5 million monthly pageviews as a trusted tool for drivers across Japan. The steady growth was further fueled by rising oil prices and Japan’s abolition of gasoline tax rates in 2008, leading to even higher traffic of both sites.

However, this success came with challenges. Spikes in traffic occasionally caused server crashes, and licensing costs increased directly with pageviews. An unsustainable pricing structure and unstable map services created a bottleneck, blocking the company's ability to scale and improve its services. GOGO Labs needed a robust and scalable mapping platform capable of processing large volumes of location data while maintaining a seamless user experience.

Mapbox Search enhances the user experience by offering precise address search, helping drivers find their destinations quickly. Using the Mapbox Directions API, GoGoEV platform provides drivers with optimized route plans, reliable turn-by-turn navigation, and precise trip duration calculations.
