The Mapbox Spring Release 2025 shared the latest Mapbox news across maps, search, and navigation, with product announcements that will help teams to build smarter, more engaging geospatial features, faster. Catch up on the release highlights here.

Mapbox Geofencing (Public Preview)

The new Mapbox Geofencing API for iOS and Android equips companies to define custom areas to monitor and trigger custom actions on mobile. Use geofences to alert users of location-based promotions or personalized offers, trigger restrictions such as speed limits or disabling parking, advise users of nearby charging stations, and more. Mapbox Geofencing allows an application to detect when a device enters, exits, or dwells within the custom-defined geographic areas.

New UX Framework in the Mapbox Navigation SDK (Beta)

The Mapbox Navigation UX Framework (UXF) accelerates development of in-app navigation features on mobile. The UXF provides a collection of pre-built components and templates that operate on top of the Mapbox SDKs. With the UXF, developers can make significant progress towards a fully-featured navigation experience in just days, benefiting from over a decade of Mapbox experience with building custom, user-friendly navigation interfaces. UXF is currently in beta for Android, with support for iOS to follow.

The UXF templates and components are based on production-tested navigation experiences, but they still provide the flexibility to customize that developers love about Mapbox. Quickly adjust the look and feel of the overall navigation experience with UI ‘themes’, including changes to color schema, Ul icons, and typography.

The UXF gives developers a way to build in-app navigation quickly and supports all the major components of a full-featured navigation experience, including:

• Destination details: Access and personalize destination details with POI photos, saved favorites, recent locations, and nearby facilities.
• Multi-stop route planning: Manage a route with options to avoid tolls and closures, add multiple waypoints, and reorder stops as needed.
• Active guidance: Keep drivers informed with clear lane details, maneuver callouts, a trip summary, and proactive notifications of alternate routes.
• Driver notifications: Alert users to faster routes, camera warnings, speed zones, border crossings, incidents, and more to ensure a safer and more informed drive.

The UXF also provides the option to tap into advanced navigation features from Mapbox including 3D maps, EV routing, and AI voice assistant.

Mapbox Voice Feedback Agent (Beta)

The new Mapbox Voice Feedback Agent makes it easy for end users to report issues using natural language right from the map interface. Whether reporting incorrect business hours or a misplaced delivery entrance, users can speak naturally to provide detailed feedback without switching apps or pulling over.

Commercial logistics and delivery customers are adopting the Voice Feedback Agent to streamline reporting, capture more accurate data, and improve map and navigation quality for the critical last 100 meters. Request beta access.

Boundaries v4.5 data update

The latest Mapbox Boundaries release delivers a major expansion in coverage and precision across Europe, adding over 107,000 new boundaries and updating over 56,000 existing ones.

Zone Avoidance (Beta)

Zone Avoidance features within Mapbox Navigation services enables greater control over routing by making it possible to define custom polygons that the Mapbox Directions API will avoid. Using Mapbox Tiling Service (MTS), companies can create, visualize, and manage custom zones to avoid traveling through, ideal for scenarios like delivery vehicles with unique requirements such as avoiding busy pedestrian areas, low clearance zones, or narrow streets.

Currently in beta, Zone Avoidance equips teams to optimize routing for parameters that matter the most to their use case, including safety or regulatory compliance. Request access.

Other highlights

The new Interactive Map Features, launched with Mapbox GL JS v.3.11 and Mapbox Mobile Maps SDKs v.11.11, provides a simpler approach to add interactions with map POIs, labels, and buildings — cutting development time and improving code clarity. The new Incremental Updates capability of the Mapbox Tiling Service (MTS) makes it possible to update just a portion of data within an existing tileset. Hosting data with Mapbox tilesets is an efficient way to add custom geospatial data to maps, but in situations where data changes frequently, reprocessing an entire tileset can be inefficient.

Add realistic weather effects to a map interface for a more immersive experience, using customizable particle animations. Enhance trip planning and navigation for hikes, runs, rides, and drives by visually representing the current or forecasted weather conditions. Explore the playground to fine-tune parameters and generate code snippets ready to add to web or mobile applications.
