In April, Mapbox APJ partnered with MIERUNE, an innovative geospatial technology startup, to host "Geo-ten 2024," Japan's premier map business event. Since 2016, this annual event has been focused on the Japan GIS/Map communities to strengthen developer engagement. MIERUNE and Mapbox Japan became the organizers in 2022, taking over from 365y Inc.

This year, GeoTen’s theme was The "Now and Future" of Maps and Location Information and was held at Asakusabashi Hulic Hall on April 19. With the participation of 50 exhibiting companies and organizations, the event witnessed an unprecedented turnout, attracting over 1,000 enthusiastic visitors. This milestone marks the largest attendance in the history of the exhibition, underscoring the growing significance of maps and location information in fields such as disaster management and mobility solutions.

Now in its ninth year, Geo-ten has evolved into a highly anticipated annual gathering, reflecting the escalating interest in location data utilization driven by advancements in AI technology. Leading companies driving the geospatial technology industry, organizations utilizing maps and location data to address societal challenges, and innovative enterprises pioneering new business opportunities converged. The event provided a platform for participating companies and organizations to engage in networking, and presentations showcased new products, making it a fitting occasion for understanding the present and future of maps and location-based solutions.

The 'Geo-ten' is an industry activation event organized by companies in the mapping and location-based services sector, targeting individuals considering the adoption of solutions utilizing maps or seeking employment opportunities within the mapping industry. Since its inception in 2016, it has grown into Japan's largest exhibition for the mapping business.

Exhibitors at the event included a diverse range of companies and organizations, spanning from mapping development firms and car navigation developers to data solution providers leveraging crowd flow data. Additionally, non-profit organizations mapping multi-purpose restrooms and citizen groups passionate about maps were also present. The diversity of participants reflects the expanding scope of map-related applications, particularly with the increasing advancements in AI and IoT technologies.

The event featured presentations by exhibitors, many of which were standing-room only, further demonstrating the growing interest and attention on the current state of the mapping industry.

Overall, it was a highly successful event, highlighting the thriving landscape of the mapping industry.
