Mapbox Geocoding: V6 Now Generally Available

We're thrilled to announce the general availability of Geocoding v6 – the latest and most powerful iteration of Mapbox Geocoding API. Since its private preview, customers and developers have benefitted from significant enhancements like unit-level geocoding, batch geocoding, and advanced analytics features. This release brings additional value for businesses across many industries.

Geocoding v6 key benefits

• Find apartment units and businesses suites: Unit-level geocoding facilitates precise pickup and dropoff experiences, and enables validation of exact customer addresses including apartments and business suites. Geocoding v6 is launching with coverage of 5M multi-unit buildings and over 20M unique units in the US.‍
• Geocode high volumes efficiently: Batch geocoding allows customers to easily send large amounts of geocodes in a single request. It has improved performance by allowing up to 1,000 queries to be sent in the same request.‍
• Geocode in Japan with enhanced coverage: Geocoding in Japan has been dramatically improved, with industry-leading accuracy and coverage of over 99% of Japanese addresses.‍
• Query for higher accuracy and understand result confidence: Structured input allows forward address queries to be labeled by component parts to get more accurate results. Break down your address by component parts (street number, street name, etc.) for even more precise geocoding with structured input. Structured input provides higher accuracy when working with well-organized address data, while the new Smart Address Match object helps to understand the geocoder’s response quality in detail and helps identify problematic addresses.‍
• New quality of life features for developers: Permanent geocoding is now self-service and available to all Mapbox customers who need to cache responses. The API response object is friendlier, thanks to a geographical context object with named properties. A stable and unique Mapbox ID is available for caching and lookups via the Details API.
